P6_RenameFile_NWFS
A Tool for Renaming Files on NetWare Volumes

Name

P6_RenameFile_NWFS

Version

1.00

Synopsis

P6_RenameFile_NWFS [OldFQFN] [NewBaseName]

Where: OldFQFN = Original fully qualified name of file
NewBaseFileName = New base name of file

Purpose

Rename a file stored on a NetWare volume.

Description

You must specify the fully qualified name of the file to rename.

You may specify the new base name, the name without the path, for the file. If you omit the base name, the program prompts for it interactively.

After confirming that the specified file exists, the program renames the file as indicated, using a two step process to get around a limitation in the way the NetWare file system stores file names. The outcome of this limitation is that the new name cannot differ from the old one only by case of one or more letters. This behavior is by design and differs from the behavior of the Windows NT File System (NTFS).

By allowing the program to prompt for the new name, this program can be added to the WinBatch and WinEdit PopMenu context menus or to the native Windows context menus.

A later version of this program may include the capability to accept a list of file names to be processed using a set of rules.
